A new milestone for the large-scale project of logistics service provider GROUP7: the groundbreaking ceremony heralds the next project phase of the new service centre. Present were those responsible of GROUP7, political representatives, construction management and representatives of the general contractor. The future service center will be the largest of the Schwaiger company. It has a floor space of 65,000 square metres, of which 5,000 square metres are office spaces. 210 new jobs will be created. "We are proud to be standing here today. After the inauguration of the new facility, GROUP7 will have a total of 360,000 square meters of logistics space in Germany. The new service centre is an important pillar for the development of our company. At the same time, we also need the capacities to meet customer needs," explained Günther Jocher, Managing Director of GROUP7. Commissioning of the new building is scheduled for the end of 2024.
Lounges, networking areas and rooftop terrace for employees
The current status of the project is impressive. The earthworks have been completed. The building construction phase has begun. "I am particularly looking forward to the implementation of our plans for our headquarters, which will be designed in office campus construction. We want to do everything we can to make our employees feel comfortable. Among other things, common lounge rooms and networking areas are planned, as well as a rooftop terrace with seating and barbecue facilities," confirmed Daniel Jocher, Project Manager of GROUP7.
Location at Munich Airport favours logistical activities
In terms of location, the new building shines. Munich Airport is only 5 minutes away, which is a decisive advantage for GROUP7's air freight business segment. It is also 5 minutes to the A92 motorway and 30 minutes by car to Munich city centre. The transshipment station in Munich-Riem can be reached in half an hour. Employees can easily reach the new location by public transport. The future Schwaigerloh S-Bahn station is planned in the immediate vicinity of the new building.
On course for DGNB Gold
The new centre is to be audited by the DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council) and receive a gold certificate, just like all GROUP7 service centers. An extra-large sustainability package has been put together for the new building, which will be built near the current headquarters of the logistics service provider GROUP7. Some of the highlights include: a large-scale photovoltaic system with pre-installation for energy storage, 125 charging stations for electric cars and electric trucks, a 1,200 square meter green roof, and the use of heat pumps and combination radiation devices for heating. "We will set up beehives in the park to produce our own GROUP7 honey," concludes Daniel Jocher.
